  IN OCTOBER of last year, I received a call from AMA's Flying Site Coordinator Joe Beshar, who informed me that he had been invited to make a presentation October 25-26 at the National Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Coordinator meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
  
  Last year the EPA and AMA entered into a partnership agreement called the Memorandum of Understanding to support communities interested in allowing cleaned-up Superfund waste sites to be used as model airplane flying sites.
  
  Joe asked me to find a local AMA club that could host a buddy-box flying demonstration for the EPA regional coordinators.

  They (Beshar and W. DeCou) continue to provide support and encouragement in finding flying sites by telephone/email support and providing support material and advice.Beshar notes they are continuing with the Superfund projects and are currently working on a Brownsfield program.He will be attending the annual meeting of the Superfund people on October 25.

  Congratulations to Joe Beshar for being elected into the Vintage Radio Control Society Hall of Fame for 2004.Joe was presented with his plaque at the VR/CS Spirit of Selinsgrove Reunion held in Endicott, NY on September 4-5, 2004.

  "We don't need the ground, we just need the air above it," said Joseph Beshar, the flying sites coordinator for the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
  
  Some of the 2,500 clubs across the country are already using 145 landfills for runways and launchpads for miniature aircraft - including more than a half dozen in Texas.The Superfund sites could include landfills, or properties where industrial activity has led to contamination.
  
  Beshar says the partnership will open up 1,500 potential sites across the country - hot commodities since they tend to be open fields with lots of space to takeoff.Recently, as development has gobbled up open space, enthusiasts have struggled to find places to fly.
  
  "The modeling community is hungry for places to fly," Beshar said.
