   John Besant-Jones, Lead Economist in the Energy and Water Department of the Private Sector and infrastructure Vice-presidency, has over 25 years experience in the energy industry and multilateral development institutions. Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked for consulting engineers and management consultants. During his time at the World Bank, he has managed energy sector and project work as well as the World Bank's assistance for power sector reform in Nigeria. He was a major contributor to work on the Bank's 1992 power policy, and was a core team member for the 1994 World Development Report. He also spent three-and-a-half-years at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where he worked on power sector reform and investment transactions in Ukraine and Romania. On returning to the World Bank, he co-authored the recent Energy Business Renewal Strategy for the World Bank Group and a paper on lessons for developing countries from the California power crisis. He has degrees from Oxford and London Universities.
