Lin Berwick, who is blind and has cerebral palsy, said she felt forced to settle for £170,000 in compensation after disagreements on how badly her health was affected by the incident. She said she would have been happy with £375,000, much of which will be needed to pay for care.
She told DN: "We didn't know how the judge would rule and if he would have gone down the path of their [Go-Fly] expert witnesses the amount would have been even less than £170,000."
Mrs Berwick, who is DN's telephone counsellor, took the airline to court after damaging her back, legs and shoulders on a trip from Edinburgh to Stansted in September 2001. Despite requesting extra legroom she was forced into a standard seat.
She was then removed from the plane and made to wait four hours for the next flight, on which a similar incident took place.
Mrs Berwick said: "According to experts, the injuries have hastened my disability by ten years. I am in constant pain. They treated me worse than they would an animal."
She has now started a campaign* and wants to hear from people who have had similar experiences when boarding flights, to compile a dossier.
A spokeswoman for Easyjet, which took over Go Fly in 2002, confirmed liability had been accepted on the incident but said the issue of compensation was "a private matter between the airline and Mrs Berwick". -

Somewhat gloomy, but also inspirational, was the tale of Lin and Ralph, A Love Story in ITV1's Real Life documentary strand. Lin Berwick, DN's telephone counsellor, has cerebral palsy and is blind. The programme told the moving story of how Lin met and married Ralph, 17 years her senior.
