Tree planted in memory of Jack Bertron

The Lake Anna Civic Association honored its founder, Jack Bertron, Monday afternoon when a weeping cherry was planted in his memory on the grounds of the Lake Anna Rescue Squad building in Bumpass.
"Jack Bertron moved here many years ago like so many of us," said Bill Hayden, LACA president.

Bertron, who died in September, formed the Lake Anna Civic Association in 1990 and served as its leader for several years before retiring.The membership has continued to grow to include not only residents, but businesses and others who are interested in maintaining the quality of life at Lake Anna, including water quality, safety and growth and development.
In 2002, the LACA renamed its Good Neighbor Award to the Jack Bertron Distinguished Service Award, recognizing the efforts of the long-time Lake Anna resident and advocate.Each year LACA presents awards to members of the community who have made outstanding contributions to the Lake Anna community.
Attending the ceremony were Bertron's son and daughter-in-law, Jack Jr. and Connie, of Northern Virginia as well as the family's Lake Anna neighbors and friends, members of the Lake Anna Civic Association and volunteers with the Lake Anna Rescue Squad, another organization which Bertron supported.
"From our humble beginnings to today, we owe Jack a large debt of gratitude," Hayden said.

The plaque reads, "In loving memory of Jack R. Bertron, founder of the Lake Anna Civic Association.This tree in his remembrance."
"This is such a nice thing for the community to do for my father.Dad always thought of this as home and I'm sure he would appreciate it," Bertron said.
