Cal Chaplin, principal of the Portland Arts and Technology High School (PATHS), and Holly Bertrand, art teacher at Bucksport High School, are recipients of the two annual awards given by the Maine Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE).
Cal Chaplin has been named Distinguished School Administrator in Arts Education, and Holly Bertrand will receive the Bill Bonyun Artist/ Educator Award for 2002.The Alliance will honor Chaplin and Bertrand at an award ceremony in the Hall of Flags of the State Capitol Building in Augusta at noon on March 13, 2002, which is Arts Education Advocacy Day in the state of Maine.

In conferring the award on Holly Bertrand, the Maine Alliance for Arts Education recognizes her achievement as an outstanding art teacher.Artist Anne-Claude Cotty stated in her nomination of Bertrand, "In her 24 years in the Bucksport Public Schools, she has built art programs at each level, beginning with the elementary schools, moving on to the middle school, and finally to the high school.With each move, the school board heeded her suggestions for additional art instruction and supported her implementation of a sequential art curriculum in grades one through twelve."Bertrand's colleague Kristy Cunnane says, "Holly offers a broad range of experiences for the beginner to the advanced art students.
