   Frédéric Bertrand, project director at Science-Metrix, is an expert analyst in the fields of life and environmental sciences. He is also responsible for science and technology (S&T) literature reviews, S&T monitoring and the standardization of scientometric databases. He has worked as a research officer in the field of S&T intelligence and monitoring, measurement and communications at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique , Urbanisation, Culture et Société (INRS-UCS). He has contributed to the elaboration of S&T policy management tools at Environment Canada and worked on several environmental biology research projects at Université Laval, Université du Québec à Montréal and at Université de Sherbrooke.
   
   Frédéric holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Université Laval and a master's degree in environmental sciences from the Institut des sciences de l'environnement (ISE) at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). He is currently collaborating with the Centre d'étude des interactions biologiques entre la santé et l'environnement (CINBIOSE-UQÀM), the Direction de santé publique de Montréal (DSPM) and the Département de Médecine sociale et préventive at the Université de Montréal (MSP) on the production and analysis of statistics related to industrial pollution and urban environmental equity.

   Frédéric Bertrand is an associate and project director at Science-Metrix, a Canadian company based in Montreal that specializes in the measurement and evaluation of science, technology and innovation (STI). Before joining Science-Metrix in 2002, he worked as a research officer in the fields of STI monitoring, measurement, and communications at INRS. He also has contributed to the elaboration of S&T policy management tools and participated in a number of environmental biology research projects.
   
   He recently contributed to a scientometric report on the position of Canada's scientific output in environmental research and participated in the evaluation of the Minerals and Metals Action Plan 2000 on Climate Change Program.
   
   Frédéric holds a B.Sc. in biology and a M.Sc. in environmental sciences. His research interests include urban environmental equity, environmental science policy as well as scientometrics.
