Donald E. Bertrand, 77 -- Outdoorsman, business owner
WOLFBORO, N.H. -- Mr. Donald E. Bertrand, 77, died peacefully at his home in Wolfboro, N.H., on Monday, June 7, 2004, following a brief illness.
He was born on August 9, 1926, the son of the late Francis X. and Anna M. (Bergeron) Bertrand.He was raised in Pepperell.
Prior to his retirement in the early 1990s, Donald, also known as "Bert" and "Pop" by his family, worked for 26 years at Bemis Bros. Bag Co. as a sewing machine mechanic and boiler engineer.

Donald loved his family and shared his love of the outdoors with them through the years.He and his family enjoyed many years of fishing, hiking, backpacking, camping and raising animals on their farm in Pepperell.Donald was an avid fisherman, a member of Trout Unlimited, and he was the coordinator of the Float Stocking Program for Trout Unlimited.He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years, as well as a Third- and Fourth-Degree of the Knights of Columbus.
During his retirement, he enjoyed years of traveling with his wife to various destinations in the United States, including Alaska, Florida, New Mexico, Arizona and California, where he enjoyed rock collecting, making jewelry, fishing, refinishing furniture and working in his workshops in Wolfboro and Florida.
He enjoyed spending time with his loving family, which includes six children and seven grandchildren.
