   A spokesperson for the SEFCC, Robert Bertram, said the significant over-estimation in the Southern Region resulted from a bias in the timber estimates that has not been corrected.
   
   Australian Silicon is proposing to use 'residue' timber from sawlog operations in the Southern Region for a charcoal plant. The company originally proposed making charcoal with timber from forest operations on the NSW north coast.
   
   "The consultant's report on 'residue' timber from north coast forests recognized that there is a 'likelihood of bias' unless the timber estimates are modified to exclude areas now in National Park. It is apparent that this has not occurred on the south coast. Our analysis of the modified timber information indicates 70% less sawlog than the current estimate for the main sawlog species," said Mr Bertram.
