Canon Dick Bertram CANON BERTRAM TO RETIRE
One of the best known clergy in the United Dioceses, Canon Richard (Dick) Bertram, will retire from the full-time ministry at the end of June. He has been Rector of Irishtown & Donnybrook since the early 70s having been appointed Rector of Irishtown in 1973 and of the amalgamated parishes the following year. But it is his work as chaplain to St Vincent's Hospital that has made him well known beyond his parochial boundaries.
Ordained a deacon in 1953 and a priest the following year the Canon's early ministry was spent in the north-west of the country where he was curate of St John's Sligo and Strandhill. He then moved to Dublin as curate of Booterstown before being appointed Rector of Stranolar Union in Co Donegal. Seven years later he returned to Dublin this time as Rector of St Catherine's & St James's where he stayed until moving to Irishtown.
In 1986 he was made a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral where he has been Treasurer since 1995. He is also rural dean of St Ann's rural deanery.
In retirement he and his wife, Doreen, will live in Greystones. The following tribute was paid to Canon Bertram by Archbishop Empey.

We wish Dick and Doreen many happy years in retirement." -
