   It began 42 years ago with Dick Bertram, the founder of one of the largest boat brokerage firms in the world, Richard Bertram, Inc. Bertram entered the new field of boat building by using Ray Hunt's previous design as reference. He built his first deep-V hull boat with twin 275 horsepowered engines. He affectionately named it after his wife "Moppie".
   
   Moppie was entered into the prestigious, 186-mile Miami-Nassau race. No one expected her to slice through the nine-foot waves. No one expected her to cut through gale force winds. They definitely didn't expect to see her smash the race record - finish eight hours ahead of the second prize team.
