Berry, 46, is the principal in the Pittsburgh law firm of Berry & Associates.
From June 1990 to March 2000, Berry served as partner/shareholder/director with the Pittsburgh law firm of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote PC.
From March 1983 to June 1990, Berry served as Senior Deputy Attorney General, based in Pittsburgh.He was responsible for all phases of trial and appellate litigation in state and federal court on behalf of Commonwealth agencies.
Berry previously served with the Pittsburgh law firm of Faderewski & Herrington, and as an injury representative with Travelers Insurance Co., based in Pittsburgh.
Berry serves as Secretary of the Port Authority of Allegheny County.He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America ; the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission Public Participation Panel ; the Allegheny County Transportation Committee ; and TECHI (The Extended Courthouse) Board.
He is a member of the Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers ; a Special Master of the Court of Common Pleas ; Chairman of the state Supreme Court Disciplinary Committee ; a lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association and the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's Metro-Urban Institute ; a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association's Committee on Opportunities for Minorities in the Legal Profession ; and counsel to the Covenant Church of Pittsburgh.
He has received the National Association of Minority Contractors Award.Berry earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, and his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Donna.They have two children.
If confirmed as Prothonotary, Berry plans to continue a reduced law practice.Berry does not plan to run for election to the post in November 2001, and supports County Executive Roddey's plan to consolidate the Office of Allegheny County Prothonotary.
To be eligible for nomination, a resident must : be a citizen of Pennsylvania ; reside in the judicial district for at least one year prior to appointment ; reside in the district during the term of office ; and be a member of the bar of the state Supreme Court.
The Prothonotary is the chief clerk of the Court of Common Pleas.
Gov. Ridge is in Switzerland to attend the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum.
