Home visit: JOAN DALTON, Director, or ADAM BERGIN, Kennel Supervisor, will schedule a home visit to be sure that you can provide an appropriate environment for a dog.

Thanks to kennel supervisor, ADAM BERGIN, youths are learning new computer skills by developing fliers to advertise their dogs for adoption, and writing POOCH resumes should they wish to find a job working with dogs when they are released from corrections.

Project POOCH director, Joan Dalton, was assisted by MacLaren Superintendent, Gary Lawhead; Youth-Kennel Supervisor, Adam Bergin; dog trainer, Cinthia Mitchell; researcher, Kate Davis, MSW; and POOCH staffers, Brie Caffey and Jane Turville, in presenting workshops on coordinating and working within correctional facilities, facilitating personal and vocational development in incarcerated youths, coordinating and working with the canine shelter system; screening, caring for and obedience training dogs; strategies for placing dogs in adoptive homes, and establishing an effective board of directors.

Thanks also to: KATE DAVIS, MSW, who presented preliminary data on youth behavioral changes reported in interviews with POOCH youths and corrections staff; ANGELA SABIN-VEEK, who attended the POOCH 101 Workshop in 2005 and told about her work in the Oregon Youth Authority People and Animals Worth Saving (PAWS) Program in Josephine County; and JEFF SLEDGE, Oregon Youth Authority administrator, who discussed the importance of coordination with corrections in program design; and ADAM BERGIN, Youth/ Kennel Supervisor, who shared strategies for working with POOCH youths.

When Adam Bergin, youth/kennel supervisor, brought him back to the kennel, he found that Texas had parasites, as well as a dull, dry coat. However, Texas remembered Project POOCH, and seemed overjoyed to back where he knew he'd be loved and well cared for.

All the repairs were done by the youth now enrolled in Project POOCH under the oversight of kennel supervisor, ADAM BERGIN.
