WATERTOWN, MA, March 9, 1999 . . . Ionics, Incorporated (NYSE-ION) announced today that John P. Bergeron had been elected Vice President and Treasurer of the Company.

Mr. Bergeron, 48, has been employed by Ionics for eleven years, having held positions as Director of Taxes, Director of Cash Management and Treasurer prior to his recent promotion.Mr. Bergeron holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts in accounting, and a Masters degree from Bentley College in taxation.
