"This is truly a wonderful event that serves a large number of people," said chair Eric Berg, associate director of admissions at St. Scholastica."We're overflowing with volunteers, and last year we served a record number of people at the buffet. Many of them would not otherwise have a warm meal or company on Thanksgiving Day.We don't want anyone to be hungry or lonely during Thanksgiving. It's a heartwarming occasion."
Many groups contribute to the buffet's success, Berg said. The buffet's volunteers come from throughout the Twin Ports community, including individuals and groups from churches and civic organizations, Gold Cross Ambulance, schools and businesses. Many businesses also contribute to help subsidize the cost of purchasing food and other supplies.St. Scholastica provides volunteers and raises funds to buy food through a competition and a raffle among its students, faculty and staff.
