"He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder," Troy Benson, a Santa Clara County deputy district attorney, said.
Benson added Eti admitted that he killed the victims Trevor Adrian De Voe, 24, and Irwin Lorenzo Dillon II, 20 to benefit a street gang he was affiliated with, the Sons of Samoa.
According to Benson, the Sons of Samoa originate in Long Beach, Calif., and are associated with the notoriously violent Crips street gang of Southern California.
"Eti is actually a member of a particular sect of the Sons of Samoa known as the C Street gang in San Jose," Benson said.

Benson said Eti initially faced death penalty charges, or "special allegations," for the killings.

The first preliminary hearing was held Wednesday at superior court in San Jose and will likely continue for about a month, Benson said.
Because Eti claimed use of the gun that killed De Voe and Dillon, Benson said the seven remaining suspects would face second-degree murder charges only.
