    Mike Bennett, of Cianbro Corp., the Pittsfield-based construction company, and other members of a wide-based business panel told students at the Skowhegan Regional Vocational Center that their vocational education provided the base they needed get started in their field of choice.

    And Bennett said companies like his would be looking for good employees.

    "Over the next 10 years there is going to be a shortage of workers," said Bennett.

    But a commitment to continuing their education and developing attributes like adaptability and a strong work ethic would be critical to their success.

    Curly Madore, of Madison Paper Industries, said his company stresses lifelong learning.His company is owned 60 percent by a Finnish company and 40 percent by the New York Times.

    He said his company would soon start teaching German to workers to help them communicate with German-speaking industry representatives who visit the plant.
