    Michael Bennett, a securities law partner at Blaney McMurtry LLP in Toronto, said a proposal by regulators in Canada that chief executive and chief financial officers at public companies e required to certify financial statements has led to a surge in work for corporate lawyers and outside legal consultants.

    Along with certification of the statements, the proposal requires that a company indicate that it has followed all best-reporting practices."It's just one line, but it implies a huge amount to be done," he said.
