If any lose their jobs, they shouldn't remain out of work long, says Northwood University automotive marketing professor Jeff Bennett.
"The skilled guys, the technicians, they won't have too much trouble finding jobs," Bennett said.
"The seasoned, experience technician can almost go anywhere and find a job."
Every time a dealership closes, Bennett said, customers still have to go somewhere for service.
National chains such as Tuffy or Jiffy Lube "have the potential to increase," he said.
Those on the sales end can still find employment too, Bennett said.
Many of Northwood's automotive marketing students come from dealership families.
"As long as that family's store is viable, (the student will) have a secure future," Bennett said.
