Holly Bennett on siteThis week's Top Gear programme with Jeremy Clarkson saw Rochdale Training's Holly Bennett dynamiting a 28-storey block of flats with a Toyota van parked on top, just to see how well the van would survive - it did, though with Holly's expertise, the building was completely demolished.
Holly is Europe's number one female demolition expert and the only fully qualified female explosives engineer in the UK and works with Rochdale Training as a trainer and registered assessor for NVQs in demolition, scaffolding and mobile plant.
Holly's high profile past has included blowing up many buildings across the UK and internationally and she's currently busy - when she's not training in Rochdale - working on the site for the London Olympics in 2012, clearing buildings for new developments. She got into explosives and demolition when someone told her, as a teenager, that it wasn't the sort of work for women ...
Holly commented: "National Vocational Qualifications are still relatively new to demolition when compared to the construction industry but I am committed to assisting Rochdale Training to help companies improve working conditions and practices through the government-funded courses that are available from CITB (Construction Industry Training Board)."
