Don Bender, owner of Double D Special Events in Monee, is ready, although many of his customers are not.
"Most people I've talked with don't know they are coming," Bender said.
Parties held in parking lots should be okay, he said.Back yards with lots of trees? That's another story.
"I've got to see what the crop will be.I am prepared if we run into any problems.I put up tents that can have sides put on to keep the cicadas out.Of course, having sides will make it warmer in the tents and that's something we'll have to tackle," Bender said.
He recalls "stepping on cicadas and crunching them and people eating them" 17 years ago.
"I never ate one," he said, "but they crunched everywhere you walked."
He's confident he and other outdoor party planners will be prepared.
