Personal Background
Craig Bell is the newest member of the K-EYE news team. The oldest of two, he was born and raised in the "Magic City" of Birmingham, AL where his family still lives. Craig calls himself a people person and loves his job as a news reporter because he meets so many interesting people every day. Craig is also a very proud member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, incorporated.
Education
Craig is a graduate of Alabama A&M University, the home of the Bulldogs. In his days on Normal "Hill," Craig played football and earned a degree in Communications with a minor in Marketing. Craig was also listed in Who's Who Among American College Students and on the dean's list.
Career Highlights
Craig was bitten by the news bug early in his career while interning at WAAY television in Huntsville, AL. That internship turned into a full-time associate producer's job. During that time Craig also produced and hosted "The Lockeroom," a sports talk show at WJAB-FM. As a former football player, this was right on par with Craig's goal of becoming a TV sports reporter. Later he took jobs as a photojournalist at WAFF in Huntsville and then at WVTM in his hometown of Birmingham.
After about two years in the business, Craig landed his first on-air job as sports reporter at WXII in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There, he covered ACC champions in basketball, football, soccer, and golf. Craig also spent lots of time developing sports news stories with the NFL's Carolina Panthers, NBA's Charlotte Hornets, NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, and also with the boys of the NASCAR circuit. After three years in the Tar-Heel State, Craig moved further north to WBAL and the 'Charm City' of Baltimore, MD. There, he covered The Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, The Orioles, and the Maryland Terps.
Yearning for a new challenge Craig switched from sports to news. He landed his next gig at BET Nightly News working out of the Washington DC Bureau as a national correspondent. Craig's first day on his new job was September 11, 2001. At BET he covered the aftermath of the terror attacks from the Pentagon. He also covered the who, what, where, when, and whys of the anthrax siege on the nation's capital. Then, after a brief stop at WQAD in the Quad Cities, Craig lassoed his next job in the Lone Star state, where he happily calls K-EYE home.
