Bell
October 04, 2002
...
Clarence Bell, who so ably served his constituents in Harrisburg for more than four decades, must be rolling over in his grave.
If there was one thing Bell found abhorrent, it would be a basic failure of so many citizens to exercise one of the most precious commodities in our democracy, the right to vote.
...
Bell.
Much to the Democrats' chagrin, after calling the $250,000 cost of the special election just a month before the general election a waste of money and political convenience, they had the stage all to themselves.
It seems more than just a bit ironic that in a region that regularly screams for tax relief, an election for a state senator whose first task likely will be to take part in a special session on tax reform was all but ignored.
Maybe voters are waiting for November, when the ballot will be topped with Democrat Ed Rendell and Republican Mike Fisher duking it out for the governorship.Every seat in the state House and a few Congressional seats also will be contested.
