"Travelers who do not have adequate time to apply through standard channels or who want the piece of mind of having passports in hand quickly, however, do have options," said Bennett Bell, Manager of AAA Mid-Atlantic's Retail And Travel Office in downtown Washington.
To assist travelers, AAA Mid-Atlantic's Travel Offices across the Washington metro area are geared up to offer expedited passport services. It allows passports to be returned in as few as 24-hours.AAA Mid-Atlantic also offers passport photos on site.
"Travelers wishing to obtain passports within one day are required to present proof of confirmed travel plans," Bell added.
"Those wishing to obtain passports in three to nine days, however, do not have to provide proof of upcoming travel outside the United States. "
"While using a passport expediter adds additional fees to the process and is costly, it is a stress reliever if one needs a passport in a hurry," said Bell.
...
Passports will become a hot commodity before then," Bell said.
The U.S. Department of State estimates that approximately 27 percent of the population - or 68-70 million Americans - currently hold passports. The number of passports issued continues to grow.During fiscal year 2005 the State Department issued over 10 million passports. That number is expected to grow by two million this year.
"Under the new rules, children will also be required to present a passport when entering the United States at airports or seaports of entry," said Bell.
