Goodwin, Mills and Cawood engineer Billy Belk reported at a Sept. 12, 2001 workshop meeting, that an ADEM consent order was issued to the city after a series of three violations occurred over a four-month period and said that the waste water treatment problem had gone its its full gamut as far as putting the work off.
He said that following a 30-month time period, the city would receive severe penalties if the work wasn't done.
During that meeting, the engineering firm proposed to pull all equipment in the headworks area that would be typically be renovated to an area outside the existing lab and pump station building and proposed building a two-stage removal system. It said that it could put in a wet well with a mechanical bar screen that would collect larger items and would mechanically clean itself.
It also discussed building an aerated grit chamber to remove finer particles.
Another item that was discussed during the Sept. 12 meeting was the need to take care of the large aeration basin that's too large for the city's needs and is causing environmental problems. -
