   Turnover in the Spanish chemical sector amounted to - 31.4 billion last year on the back of five years of strong production growth in an industry that now accounts for 10 percent of Spanish industrial production, according to data released Tuesday by Francisco Belil, the chairman of the sector association Feique. Belil noted that Spanish chemical industry turnover has increased 36 percent in the last five years and has become the fifth largest chemical industry in Europe and the seventh largest in the world.

   The chemical industry production in Spain marked a 36 pct cumulative increase in value since 1998, Belil added. The chemical sector in Spain is the fifth largest producer in Europe and seventh largest worldwide. The chemical sector exports from Spain in 2002 rose by 4.4 pct year-on-year to 13.75 bln euro. The chemical sector ranks second in Spain in terms of exports after the vehicle sector, Belil said.
