Vernon High School Principal Kenny Railsback and Vernon Middle School Principal Bill Belew, who have a combined career in education of some 60 years, plan to end those careers at the close of the school year.

Belew said he started his education career a little later than most.He was 28 years old when he started as a teacher/coach at Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1975.
He said he tried a variety of business endeavors, but has always had the desire to coach.He moved back here in 1979 to enter an insurance and real estate business with his dad.

During his time as assistant principal, Belew said he had been working on his administrator's certification and master's degree at Midwestern State University.In 1998, he replaced Don Coats as the principal at Vernon Intermediate School.
During his first year as principal, a new facility was completed and the name of the school changed to Vernon Middle School.
Belew said he hasn't made any definite plans for his retirement, but is looking at several possible opportunities."It will have to be something that doesn't require evenings and weekends, though, because I plan to spend a lot of time with my seven grandkids," he laughed.
