   "By offering implant coverage as a standard benefit, we are enabling patients to have more choices to replace lost teeth," said Marilynn Belek, DMD, Delta Dental's executive vice president and chief dental officer. "The efficacy of implants is a proven, viable clinical alternative, and this coverage helps make it more affordable for more people."
   
   Dr. Belek noted that the additional benefits for pregnant women were added because, while it has not been conclusively proven that periodontal disease directly results in lower-weight, pre-term babies, an extra cleaning and oral exam are both safe and beneficial to pregnant women's oral health.

   Delta Dental of California promotes Marilynn Belek, DMD, to Senior Vice President

   San Francisco, Calif. , Delta Dental of California, the state's largest dental health plan, has promoted Marilynn Belek, DMD, to senior vice president of Professional Services, the company's highest ranking dentist executive.
   
   Belek will oversee dentist network development, dentist credentialing, quality assurance and dental policy for the California Delta and its 18,000 participating dentists. She also will coordinate similar activities affecting all of the affiliated companies under Delta's new parent holding company. This includes professional services affecting more than 50,000 participating dentists in a total of 16 states plus the District of Columbia.
   
   Belek most recently held the position of vice president of Professional Relations for Delta Dental of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she was dental director for Delta Dental Insurance Company in Atlanta.
   
   Belek was in private practice for several years before joining the Delta system. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, and holds an M.S. from Western Kentucky University in Public Health.
