"I think it's safe to say almost everybody above the suite levels, about 90 percent of those people, will watch the screens instead of the playing field," said Dave Belding, Mitsubishi's West Coast regional sales manager.
...
With a 1.2 million-pound scoreboard, "there are issues of weight and wind loading and access to get in and out of the board," Belding said."But one of our biggest challenges is making sure you can see it from the sidelines."
That's critical, he said, because Cowboys owner Jerry Jones tends to come down to the sidelines late in the game and stand with his players.
"Nobody involved in the project wanted to disappoint him and have him walk down there and not be able to see a clear image on the screen," Belding said.
To ensure a full view directly above field level, Mitsubishi is attaching what it calls contrast panels, a protective element used for arena scoreboards to reduce the glare from ceiling lights.Outdoor football stadiums typically have louvers shading the LED displays. The Cowboys' new facility has a retractable roof that covers a hole in the middle shaped similarly to the opening at Texas Stadium, where the club has played since 1971.
"The boards are sloped at approximately 10 degrees, but beyond that, we're using a different treatment on this particular display because it's not going to be exposed directly to the sunlight," Belding said. -

David Belding, regional sales manager for Mitsubishi Electric, which manufactured a 117-foot-long screen , one of the largest in college football , at the University of Nebraska, said that project cost about $5 million, which is typical for major Division I upgrades.
Belding said many colleges added video display screens about 10 years ago and are now upgrading with larger screens because of lower costs of the LED products. -
