Mr. Belcher was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.He was a member of Little Freedom Old Regular Baptist Church and a retired heavy equipment operator, having last worked for Rapoca Energy.He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, an avid outdoorsman, loved horses and to fox and coon hunt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Edsel Belcher Jr.; one sister, Alice Elswick; five brothers, Willie Belcher,Caudil Belcher, Lonnie Belcher,Roy Belcher and Claude Belcher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred Slone Belcher of Big Rock; one daughter, Gleda Belcher Wilfong and husband, Steve, of Harrisonburg, Va.; two sisters, Carrie Lee of Big Rock and Ola Kaftan of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; one brother, Johnny (Buster) Belcher of Conaway; and five grandchildren, Melissa (Missy) Vencill and husband, James, of Blountville, Lisa Drumheller of Harrisonburg, Teresa (T.D.) Selfe of Virginia Beach, Cory Wilfong and wife, Laura, of Harrisonburg and Jeremy Wilfong and wife, April, of Tulsa, Okla.He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
