   Together we can achieve tremendous things for the building industry , said M. Clay Belcher , Ph.D. , P.E. , president of NSAE , who will serve on the AEI Board of Governors.
   
   The AEI will focus its initial efforts on developing a Building Architectural Engineering Exam through the National Council of Engineering Examiners. AEI also will help develop and advance the state-of-the-art practices in the building industry through the work of several volunteer committees dedicated to commercial , industrial , residential and institutional buildings , and military facilities. Committees also will focus on performance standards , program management and mitigating the effects of terrorism.
   
   Members of AEI must be professional engineers or architects. Affiliate Members can be other individuals in the building industry , including contractors , owners and materials suppliers.
