    Ryan Belanger - Owner

Alternative Bike was started in the winter of 1992 by an overzealous seventeen-year old named Ryan G. Belanger. It was a way to focus his energy on something that would have a positive effect, not only his life but also the community.Ryan discovered bicycling as the vehicle to better his life and means to help maximize the life he was given. The bicycle was the tool that brought success to his life and helped him find direction and purpose.Through cycling, Ryan realized his physical potential and discovered emotional peace. It even helped Ryan lose 50lbs.

With new found direction, he realized cycling was an opportunity to share his passion with others. He reached out to the local cycling community but was turned away because he did not fit the cyclist image. As a result, Alternative Bike was started creating a platform to promote his ideas and beliefs so others could share his vision.

With $750 and support from his family, he started Alternative Bike.By the year 2000, Alternative Bike was an integral part of the local community. He realized his vision of what Alternative Bike must become needed more then he could physically give of himself.

Ryan realized his vision had to become more; more then the average Bike Shop, more than a small business. He had to separate himself from his business and create a vision that others would want to embrace as their own.Today, Alternative Bike is focused on becoming a business as powerful as the cycling itself.

"We're going to be able to ride our bikes from Manchester to the Massachusetts border in the next couple of years," said Ryan Belanger, owner of Alternative Bikes in Goffstown and Jake's Bike Shop in Manchester.Personnel from the bike shops will be helping out at the tour with technical expertise, and raffling off a few bikes.

Each cyclist must pay a $25 registration fee and then raise $125 to ride in the tour.

Belanger has volunteered time working on bettering area trails, most of which are abandoned train lines that crisscross the state. The fact that the money will go back to the trails is one of the main reasons why he signed up to support the ride.
