  François Béland, PhDFrançois Béland is a Professor in the Health Administration Department of the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine and an Associate Professor in the McGill University Medicine Faculty Division of Geriatric Medicine.He is a member of the Université de Montréal Groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire en santé de (GRIS), as well as the Co-founder and co-director of SOLIDAGE - McGill University - Université de Montréal Research Group on Frailty and Aging.
  
  He completed post-doctoral studies in Healthcare Organization at the University of Michigan in 1979, and holds a Ph.D. (1978) and an M.Sc. (1971) in Sociology from Université Laval, as well as a Bachelor's degree in sociology (1967) from the Université de Montréal.
  
  For over 25 years, he has focussed on research in gerontology, and is particularly interested in the organization of services for frail older persons, patterns of utilization and costs of such services, and health-related inequalities within the general population.He is one of the principal researchers who developed the SIPA model, a system of integrated services for frail older persons.

  After completing his doctoral studies, Professor François Béland's first job was to evaluate the first home care service policy in Quebec - three-quarters of the users of this service were seniors.Since then, he has focused his research on social gerontology, in particular access to health services, the health of elderly populations and methods of integrating health and social services for seniors.
  
  In 1983, he entered the Health Administration department of the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine as a researcher and is now a full Professor there.

  "Collaboration allows us to pool the information available to help us implement effective health policies and ensure the best possible quality of life for elderly individuals across Canada," affirms Professor Béland.
  
  Professor Béland plans to build on the support he has received for SOLIDAGE in order to continue his research and researcher training program and actualize the collaboration begun by SOLIDAGE and other research groups in Quebec, Canada and other countries over the past few years.

  François Béland, PhDFrançois Béland est professeur titulaire au Département d'administration de la santé de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université de Montréal.Il est aussi professeur associé au service de gériatrie de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université McGill.Membre du Groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire en santé de l'Université de Montréal (GRIS), il est cofondateur et coresponsable de SOLIDAGE - Groupe de recherche Université de Montréal - Université McGill sur la fragilité et le vieillissement.
  
  Il a effectué des études postdoctorales (1979) sur l'Organisation des soins de santé à l'Université du Michigan.Il détient un Ph.D (1978) et une M.Sc. (1971) en sociologie de l'Université Laval, de même qu'un baccalauréat (1967) en sociologie de l'Université de Montréal.
  
  Depuis plus de 25 ans, il se consacre à la recherche en gérontologie.Il s'intéresse, en particulier, à l'organisation des services pour personnes âgées fragiles, à l'utilisation de ces services et à leurs coûts ainsi qu'aux inégalités de santé dans la population.Il est un des chercheurs principaux qui ont développé un modèle de système de soins intégrés pour les personnes âgées en perte d'autonomie soit le SIPA.
