   Shari Belafonte comes honestly by her striking good looks , screen charisma , and the keen powers of observation that will be put to the test in the rain forest of Costa Rica. The daughter of acclaimed entertainer Harry Belafonte and Dr. A. Frances Maique , she has parlayed those talents into a durable career as model , actress , product spokesperson , and producer.
   
   After growing up in New York City and Washington D.C. , Shari graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh with a degree in drama. Her early career included a two-year stint in public television in Washington , D.C. , followed by a move to Los Angeles , where she became a publicist's assistant for Hanna-Barbera Productions , answering Fred Flintstone's fan mail. Her big breakthrough came when modeling agent Nina Blanchard signed her on. I felt like I was coming home , Shari says of her first professional job.
   
   She found her way into the public eye as a Calvin Klein model , but she soon became even more famous for her dramatic roles. Aaron Spelling handpicked her to play Julie Gilette in the successful ABC series Hotel. She also starred in the feature films If You Could See What I Hear , Time Walker , Speed Zone , and Fire , Ice & Dynamite , in which she starred opposite Roger Moore.
   
   Shari has also made a name for herself as a businesswoman and product spokesperson. She has represented Bally's International Health and Fitness , Slim Fast , the Popular Club Plan , and currently is the spokesperson for Diet System 6. She's She's also released her own video , Massage for Health , and her own line of cosmetics , Islands by Shari , formulated for Hispanic , black , Asian , and Mediterranean women.
   
   Shari's most recent projects include hosting the BET/Encore Premium Movie Channel and acting as creator and executive producer of Stagecoach Mary , a ShowTime movie. She currently lives in California's San Fernando Valley.
