   Kujtesa Bejtullahu is presently working on her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, California majoring in International Relations (specialization track: Comparative and International Political Economy). Kujtesa works as a research assistant in themes of civil wars at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford.
   
   In the last 5 years she has been a member of the UN peace awarded association for youth and children, Postpessimists Prishtina, where she served as Editor in Chief and as a member of the board of directors. In addition, she is a board advisor for Balkans YouthLink and has represented these organizations in international forums such as 'Young Voices Meeting Conference' in Cape Town, South Africa 1999, the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) summer conference in Ustron, Poland. Kujtesa has also been a presenter and speaker in several academic and social forums.
   
   She received international recognition for her activism through the e-mail correspondence with an American teenager known as "E-mails from Kosova" which gave her the well-deserved name 'Anna Frank of the Balkans' and it aired on NPR, CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS, Youth Radio & Channel 4. Articles were published in the San Francisco Chronicle, CNN.com, US news, Oakland tribune. On that occasion, she received several proclamations from many cities in the U.S. In spring 2000, "E-mails from Kosova" will the Alfred I. Columbia DU-Pont Award (Silver baton).
   
   She has recently been involved as a member of the coordinating team of YouthLink 2000, a debate summer camp in Kosovo, and Youth Link Leadership Institute 2001, an intensive leadership training program for young Kosovars. She enjoys debate, travel, reading and journalism.

   A native of Kosovo, Kujtese studied international relations and economics at Stanford University and is now pursuing a Master in Public Administration in International Development at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. During the conflict in Kosovo, she received international recognition for her activism through the e-mail correspondence with an American teenager known as "E-mails from Kosovo" which gave her the name ‘Anne Frank of the Balkans' and was publicized on NPR, CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS, San Francisco Chronicle, US news, The Washington Post, San Jose Mercury, Oakland tribune, etc. On that occasion, she received several proclamations from many cities in California. In spring 2000, "E-mails from Kosovo" received the Alfred I. Columbia DU-Pont Award (Silver baton). Kujtese spent much of her time working with youth. She has been a member of the UN Peace awarded association for youth and children Postpessimists Prishtina, where she served as Editor in Chief of POSTPESSIMISTI and as a member of the board of directors. She has also been involved in leading youth leadership camps in the Balkans (such as the YouthLink 2000, a debate summer camp in Kosovo, and Youth Link Leadership Institute 2001, an intensive leadership training program for young Kosovars), which also gained her recognition in the US Congressional Record of the 107th US Congress.
   
   More recently, Kujtese worked in the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, assisting the Prime Minister's economic advisor. Other work experiences include research for the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford, internship at the German Foundation for International Development in Berlin, teaching a course on public speaking and presentation at Stanford, and working for the communications department of the World Economic Forum during Annual Meetings in Davos, Switzerland and Dead Sea, Jordan. She speaks English, Albanian, Serbo-Croatian, German, Spanish and some French.

   In 1998, as conflict intensified in Kosovo, Kujtesa Bejtullahu began sending emails about her experience to a pen pal in California that were read and widely aired on American television and radio stations and earned her the name "Anne Frank of the Balkans." As an international relations and economics major at Stanford University, Ms. Bejtullahu also worked as a research assistant in themes of civil wars at the Center for International Security and Cooperation. In 2002, she founded the World Refugee Academy and led a team of Stanford students to a refugee camp in Botswana to conduct educational work. Ms. Bejtullahu was a media officer for the 2003 and 2004 World Economic Forum in Switzerland and Jordan and has led and facilitated a number of youth initiatives in Kosovo, such as the 2001 Kosovo Youth Congress and the YouthLink Leadership Institute. She has served as editor in chief and member of the board of directors of the Postpessimists Youth Association in Prishtina and as board adviser for Balkans YouthLink, a San Fransisco-based NGO. In the summer of 2004, Ms. Bejtullahu joined the office of the Prime Minister in Kosovo, assisting his economic adviser. She is presently a 2004 Kokkalis Fellow at Harvard University as a master's candidate in public administration and international development. (Last updated 10.2004)
