Avalanche Captain Katrina Beitel said it was a good experience for her and her team mates. "We were playing triple-A and quadruple-A teams," she said Sunday, "which was a real help, playing against tougher teams with more players to draw on. We're a double-A team so that makes a difference." The Avalanche finished third of four in their own round-robin pool before moving into the elimination rounds. The girls played a total of seven games throughout the weekend tournament. "We were getting good passes and good hits," said Beitel. "We were communicating on court, we knew who had the ball." Beitel said tthe toughest match of the whole weekend for her and the rest of the Avalanche was their final game against Duchess Park of Prince George. She said it went into a tight three-set split with Prince George scraping out a last win. -

"It was awesome," said Avalanche Captain Katrina Beitel following last Wednesday's title match between Revelstoke and the Vernon Secondary Panthers. "The girls on the sidelines jumped up off the bench they were so happy," she said. The Avalanche/Panthers fight for the zone title rolled into a three-game split with Revelstoke 25-23 over Vernon in the opening set, Vernon 28-26 in the second round, and the Avalanche rolling over the Panthers in the final match 15-13. Beitel said the key to the Avalanche freezing out the Panthers in the final game was Leah Hilde-brandt. "She was serving really well," Beitel said. -

Both Avalanche Coach Terry Beitel and team captain Katrina Beitel agreed on what spelled the difference during the last match.

"They (Kibosh) had a lot of Kelowna fans there," said Katrina Beitel, "and there were other Kelowna teams too. So they (cheering section) were loud." The Avalanche captain thinks that at the end she and her team mates found their focus wavering as they listened to the crowd cheering for the Kibosh. The finals session was the sole three-game split for Revelstoke at the midget girls club volleyball provincials. All the other sessions were two-game wins against their opposition. The Avalanche finished second overall in the province in Tier Two midget girls club volleyball . Katrina Beitel has her heart set on going for the more difficult Tier One spot next season. "I definitely want to get in Tier One," she said. "If we (Avalanche) play as a team and stay focused, we could do it." Katrina Beitel was named the tournament's overall Most Valuable Player.
