"I wanted to automate the process of putting the pallet weight and ID into our existing inventory management system," said Tom Beilke, Engineering Services Project Coordinator, for the Chicago Tribune."I researched several forklift scale manufacturers, and chose LTS because I believe that they had the best construction and also ease of serviceability."
The process that the Tribune wanted to automate was the weighing of their Free Standing Inserts (FSI) in their shipping-receiving department."The FSI's come in from outside printers," said Beilke."They go into the newspaper on a daily basis, and we need to weigh them to ensure that the correct amount has been shipped."There are also different versions of ads, based on zip codes, which is part of the verification process done in the inventory management system, according to Beilke.
LTS designed a system which included two (2) of their 5,000 lb. capacity lift truck scales and digital indicators, each with a bar code scanner, Infra-red download station and communication software to ensure flawless data communications with the host computer.

"It takes approximately 1 second per pallet to download," according to Beilke.
The drivers also found the system to be helpful to them.
...
"C & M has been very responsive to our needs, and flexible in working with us," said Beilke."They have been helpful in getting the system to be user friendly and we enjoyed working with them."
LTS Scale can be seen in virtually all segments of weighing from standard shipping-receiving applications, to custom interfacing applications.Let our engineers analyze your weighing needs.
