    Mark Beilke is Associate Professor of Medicine (with tenure) at Tulane University Medical Center. He is Associate Chief in the Infectious Diseases Division at Tulane and is the infection control officer for Tulane University Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Beilke received his M.D. degree and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. His infectious diseases fellowship was at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Prior to coming to Tulane University, Dr. Beilke was a research fellow at the Laboratory of Central Nervous Systems Studies at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Beilke's primary research interest is in virology and is nationally recognized for his work on human T leukemia virus. He is the author of over 50 abstracts and manuscripts. Dr. Beilke also is the Site Virologist for the Tulane/LSU AIDS Clinical Trials Unit and is laboratory director for a biosafety level 2/3 laboratory which is staffed by 2 full-time medical research specialists. Recently, Dr. Beilke's laboratory introduced gentoypic drug susceptibility testing on human immunodeficiency virus isolates from patients who are not responding to antiretroviral therapy.
