Joachim Beil, an 18-year-old German student known as "Joe" on Hilton Head, recently finished his stay at the Gaubys and is now with Sharleen Gleason and her family.
...
Beil said he misses his family and the energy of a bigger city, but he's learning a lot in the United States.
He came to this country to improve his English language skills and expand his point of view, he said.He wanted to experience something besides "a German point of view."
And he said he's especially impressed by the number of choices he has for high school courses. In Germany, the sequence of courses is basically the same for all students.
"I'm taking creative writing, chorus and psychology," he told club members.
