   Charles graduated from Wauwatosa East high school in June 1940. He got his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin in August 1949.
   
   He served with the U.S. Marine Corp as a captain from May 1942 to February 1946. He was also a pilot - flight instructor in Corpus Christi, texas. He spent one year in Guam and Okinawa, Japan.
   
   Charles was employed as a plant engineer at Chr. Hansen Lab in West Allis, Wisconsin from 1970 until he retired in September 1985.
