Faculty member receives peacekeeping medal ROSSEAU -- Retired Chief Warrant Officer Len Beaulne has received the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal.

A part-time member of Rosseau Lake College faculty, Beaulne received the award from Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Andy Mitchell in a ceremony at the college on Thursday, March 7.

Beaulne teaches French, coaches the Varsity Hockey Team and is in charge of maintaining student dress and decorum.

In September, he led 16 students and faculty members on the college's first Survival Skills out-trip.

The Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal was inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the United Nations Peacekeepers in 1988 for their collective efforts in the cause of peace for more than 50 years.

Before joining the staff at RLC, Beaulne served in the Canadian Army for nearly 35 years.He joined in 1966 at the age of 19 and retiring in 2000.

He served two tours in Europe with NATO and served in five different peacekeeping missions in the Middle East with the United Nations and the multinational observer force.

In addition to the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, Beaulne has received seven medals, decorations and two commendations during his military career and is also a member of the Order of Military Merit, which was awarded to him by governor-general Jeanne Sauvé in 1986.
