According to Jeremy Beaulne, English instructor at NLC, and the play's director, Dracula was a natural choice as the inaugural production.The novel has been taught in the College's first-year academic writing course for a couple of years.

"I've always been fascinated by how resonant the Count is with our students.Although Stoker's book is over 100 years old, Dracula embodies the cultural anxieties of the modern world just as effectively as he embodied the cultural anxieties of the Victorian world," said Beaulne.

It is much closer to the novel than most adaptations of Stoker's text, Beaulne said.

The goal, according to Jeremy Beaulne, an English and theatre instructor at NLC, is to provide high school students with information on the academic programs available at NLC.

"We get them here, and familiarize them with the academic components, such as University Transfer and the library," Beaulne said.

The scavenger hunt is something new, inspired by the recent efforts of the recruiting department.In past years, Beaulne explained that he, fellow English instructor Dr. Heather Harper, and regional librarian Janet Beavers would have a discussion session with the students on what the College has to offer.

"Doing a scavenger hunt, we thought might be a little more fun for them," Beaulne said.
