Mildred Beam is joining Orlando Health Sept. 29. as vice president and general counsel.

She will be responsible for managing all legal affairs at Orlando Health.Prior to joining Orlando Health, she served as the senior managing attorney for Adventist Health's Florida Hospital division, where she provided oversight of the organization's legal services.

Beam was a shareholder with Mateer & Harbert P.A. in Orlando, where she practiced health, general corporate and tax law.She also practiced health law with Shear, Newman, Hahn & Rosenkranz P.A. and Shackleford, Farrior, Stallings & Evans P.A. in Tampa.

In June 2008, she was listed as a Florida super lawyer in health care law.She was recognized as one of the women who mean business by the Orlando Business Journal in 2002 and named an outstanding woman in medicine by Florida Medical Business in 2001.

She is on the executive council of the Florida Bar health law section and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the African American Chamber of Commerce in Orlando and the American Bar Association.

A licensed CPA in the state of Maryland, Beam graduated from Howard University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and earned her law degree from Georgetown University.

BEAM NAMED CHAIRMAN OF THE FLORIDA BAR HEALTH LAW SECTION'S COMMITTEE ON DIVERSITY

Orlando, FL - Mildred Beam, shareholder and attorney with Mateer Harbert, was recently named chairman of the Health Law Section's Committee on Diversity.The Health Law Section is comprised of up to six standing committees that focus on a variety of state issues.The announcement was made this month at the Florida Bar meeting in Boca Raton, Florida.

Beam was featured as an "Outstanding Woman in Fields Related to Medicine" by Florida Medical Business and is a regular speaker at the National Medical Association's regional and national meetings.She is an AV-rated attorney with more than 11 years of experience representing hospitals, physicians and other health care providers.
