County planning commissioners will consider the amendment at a public hearing on Aug. 13, county planning director Barry Beagle said in a news release.
    ...
Beagle said county regulations limit the size of an accessory building to the size of the residence, regardless of the size of the parcel of land involved.

"This has led to numerous conflicts on larger tracts of land where a larger accessory building commensurate with the size of the parcel would appear appropriate," he said.

Beagle said the proposed amendment would no longer limit the size of the accessory building to the size of the home, instead establishing a maximum square footage allowed for all accessory buildings based on the size of the parcel.

The proposed amendment is online at www.co.shawnee.ks.us/planning/amendments.shtm.A hard copy may be obtained for a $2 fee at the planning department at 1515 N.W. Saline, Suite 102.

To provide input or learn more information, call Beagle at (785) 291-5405 or county zoning administrator Anna Hernandez at (785) 291-5410.

Barry Beagle, the county's planning director, said that wasn't the intent of the resolution. He said it is possible the new resolution might be used in the planning process for the ethanol plant, but even if it is, it still provides plenty of opportunity for the public to speak out in favor of or in opposition to the project.

Commissioner Vic Miller directed Beagle to make note of Johnson's name and address and to notify him, and anyone else interested, whenever a development concerning the ethanol plan should come up.

County planning director Barry Beagle said the name was suggested by Topeka city officials.

The street, between the N.W. US-24 highway frontage road and N.W. 25th, is partly in the city and partly outside. Beagle didn't know who Stover is or was, so commissioners deferred action until that could be determined.
