Andrea Bayne to apprentice with Alberta Ballet

Andrea Bayne
...
Andrea Bayne has been seeking her dream ever since she first stepped into her ballet shoes at the age of three.
...
Andrea's career in ballet began when she was living in Halifax at age three. After her family moved to Sackville two years later, Andrea joined DancEast and within a few years her parents were driving her into Moncton six days a week for training.
Finally to support Andrea's dream to dance, her parents, Bob and Jane, moved into Moncton to bring their only daughter closer to DancEast.
"My parents are so supportive," she says from her home in Moncton."But from as far back I can remember, I knew I wanted to dance classical ballet forever."
When she flies off to Calgary on Wednesday, she will move into an apartment with two other dancers. Her days will consist of training nine hours a day, six days a week with the Alberta Ballet's professional dancers.
She was also accepted into the pre-professional program at Ballet British Columbia but chose to head in the Alberta direction.
"Once I got there for the auditions I just knew I had to be there," Andrea, who graduated from Moncton High in 2002, explains."To have them say 'yes, you have what it takes to make it professionally in Canada,' is just overwhelming.I am so excited.
"I wake up and pinch myself sometimes.I think to myself, 'this can't be happening to little Andrea Bayne in Moncton'," she continues."I still can't believe the situation I'm in right now. There are times when I expect the Alberta Ballet to call to say they are just kidding."
Andrea has played the Sugar Plum Fairy twice in DancEast's annual Christmas production of The Nutcracker, but she doesn't take for granted all the other roles in her 17-year ballet career that got her to this point.
...
You are working against everything nature intended for your body to do," Andrea explains."I like to be challenged. And for me, when it comes to ballet, the challenge never ends."
Harriett Gratian, artistic director at DancEast, says Andrea will "knock the socks" off the world of ballet.
...
There is no dissuading Andrea from what she wants," she says."Andrea has a special performance quality that will always set her apart."
