One of the most remarkable things in her nursing career , after she quit working at doctor offices , she did private-duty nursing for a family in Boca Grande , Ray Battle said.
After acquiring several families to workfor , Mrs. Battle retired after 15 to 18 years of private-duty nursing.
Mrs. Battle enjoyed sewing and gardening and often had a hibiscus nursery.
Her most favorite thing was cooking , Ray Battle said.She would rather cook than do anything..
She was a member of the Amaranth.She was past trustee of the Kathleen Historical Society.She was a member of the Lakeland Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.She was a member of the Kathleen United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years , Leander Battle Sr. , in 1993.In addition to her son , she is survived by her son , L.C. Gus Battle , Kathleen ; daughter , Suzette Whitmer , Bartow ; brother , Charles Gavin , Kathleen ; five grandchildren ; one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lanier Funeral Home , 717 W. Griffin Road , Lakeland.Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kathleen United Methodist Church , Lakeland.
