   Mrs. Bates is the new (November, 2003) majority owner of Palm Avenue Gallery in Sarasota, Florida. She, and her husband Marsh, will operate the business. For twenty five previous years Mary ran a Barrington, Illinois firm engaged in custom picture framing, art restoration and art acquisition for individual and corporate clients.
   
   Concurrently, Mary serves as Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of Bates Consultants, Inc. where she provides a broad range of administrative support, and is a minority shareholder.

   Mary is active in the visual arts, especially in flower arranging and horticulture where she has been recognized by, among others, Garden Clubs of America. She has served as President of both The Little Garden Club of Barrington (Illinois) and The Garden Club of Barrington, a GCA member club. Mary has represented GCB in affairs as far flung as Newport, RI and Honolulu, HI. She has been instrumental in the beautification of the local library and historical society, and served on the Board of Directors of the Stillman Nature Center.
   
   A past member of the the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Barrington Area Arts Council, Citizens for Conservation, the Barrington Historical Society, and several other relevant, active groups, Mary gave both financial support and volunteer time.
   
   Children, grandchildren and friends are an important part of Mary's life. She and her husband of many years enjoy an active social life and time together.
