"City Council has decided that fireworks is a priority, so they fund it," said Foster City's recreation superintendent, Mary Bates. "As long as they continue to give us money for it, the city will have its fireworks."
Though Redwood City and Half Moon Bay both have plans to resume their displays in the future, Foster City is preparing for this year's increase in spectators, since it will be hosting the only show in the county.
Bates said the city's entire police force will be working on the Fourth along with the regular shift of firefighters. And though parking is not usually a problem for the thousands of spectators at Leo Ryan and Catamaran parks, she advises that people use public transportation, as the area gets heavily congested.
"Last year, it took 45 minutes to an hour to clear all the traffic," Bates recalled.
