While his organization has not received planned relocations from FEMA, the Salvation Army can provide shelter beds in Montclair if needed.

"We feel we had a very strong case," Salvation Army Captain Alastair Bate said following the 5-2 vote."I think the fact that it's a real need of our programming, and the need for our services in this community is only going to increase.

"We feel that this facility is going to allow us to do what we need to do."

Bate said The Salvation Army hopes to begin demolition shortly after its main program schedule ends in June.

The number of programs The Salvation Army conducts in the Citadel, however, will not increase, according to Bate.

Capt. Alastair Bate, commanding officer of the Montclair Citadel, said that following a few delays in the construction plans, the final Sunday was a great day to celebrate.

"This move to a new property has been seven to eight years.Now it's actually happening.We're moving out.We still have money to raise," Bate said.
