"It will be open until the county can secure the necessary funding to rebuild or replace the bridge," said Al Bartley, the village superintendent of public works.
The village board voted Feb. 27 to reopen the small stone bridge that connects South Piermont and Ferdon avenues, after the county hired Lichtenstein Consulting Engineers of New York City to inspect the bridge again last month, Bartley said.
"They determined that as long as we opened a single lane of traffic, no commercial vehicles were permitted and 3-ton-limit signs were posted, we could reopen the bridge and that we shouldn't experience any problems," Bartley said.

The board closed the bridge, which crosses Sparkill Creek, after Rockland County engineers and Bartley found structural problems in its concrete foundation and brick archway.
