In an effort to capitalize on the opportunities created by the ever-growing demand for convenience, Jerry Barth, president of J & E Oil, Inc., had the foresight to develop and refine the convenience store concept that is known today as UncleSam's Convenient Store.

In the true entrepreneurial spirit, Jerry Barth has had an interesting and varied career path.Wanting to be a teacher, Jerry Barth worked his way through college. However, after graduating from the University of Texas in 1966 with a degree in Biology, he never actually accepted a teaching position.Instead, he became a petroleum jobber representative, working for the next three years finding outlets for Diamond Shamrock to distribute their gasoline. Then in 1969, with some experience in the petroleum industry, Jerry Barth borrowed $ 500 and started J & E Oil, operating as an agent of Arco, in Texas.

In 1970, Arco decided to pull out of Texas.J & E Oil, however, did not.Jerry Barth continued his efforts as a broker.Wanting to expand on the experience he had gained as a jobber over the years, Jerry Barth set out to build not only a convenience store (at a time when the convenience store concept was fairly new), but a combination convenience store/gas station where he could also distribute his gasoline.

The result was the opening of the first UncleSam's Convenient Store business in Brownsville, Texas.UncleSam's Convenient Store was designed to satisfy the need for a well-lit, safe, and easy-to-use convenience store. The UncleSam's Convenient Store concept included the development of a high-quality convenience store capable of establishing a notable presence and a branded image in the minds of consumers.UncleSam's Convenient Store offers the basics (e.g., cigarettes, newspapers, and emergency items), as well as fresh food, quality snacks and beverages, excellent gasoline products, and replenishment merchandise. In addition, courtesy services (such as lottery tickets) are also offered.Dedicated customer service is a primary focus.
    ...
Jerry Barth shared his ideas for expansion with his brother, who joined the J & E Oil business.

The talented and experienced principals behind CSF, Inc. are committed to the successful development of the UncleSam's Convenient Store franchise program.Currently, over 50 stores provide evidence of this fact, serving as research and development laboratories. All design and operations improvements that have been made over the years will benefit the franchise program directly. These stores are continuously used for concept refinement and to conduct consumer studies.Even though UncleSam's Convenient Store is a start-up franchise concept, the idea of franchising is by no means new to the principals of CSF, Inc.CSF, Inc. continues to update, re-design, and re-merchandise its stores to meet changing public demands, continually keeping one goal in mind : to always be the best convenience store around.
